MEET THE STAFF - Maura Parkes

image I am Maura Parkes and I work in the Irish office in Shannon, Co Clare. We are on the west coast of Ireland which has been rebranded in recent years as the 'Wild Atlantic Way' and well worth a visit. The Wild Atlantic Way is an amazing journey of cliffs, towns, hidden beaches and epic bays. It goes from Malin head, in Donegal to Cork in the South.

Last month we did part of this journey with my family and in-laws visiting from Long Island, USA. We stayed in the village of Ballyvaughan and visited many wonderful spots in north Co. Clare including a boat trip to the Aran Islands and returning by the cliffs of Moher. Earlier this year we visited Dingle in Co. Kerry also on the WAW!

PAST
image I studied software engineering in Limerick in my early college life and in recent years I have done a Post Graduate Higher Diploma in Software Development at the University of Limerick. I have worked in and around London for nearly a decade with many software firms including a company that wrote software for the underwriters in Lloyds of London. I was lucky to work some days in the infamous building that in my opinion is not the prettiest building I have seen. I worked with EDI with previous companies and it is a growing and very interesting sector. Should you ever get to England there is one place I would recommend you visit after London and it is Bath in Somerset (100 miles west of London). It has original Roman baths and Georgian architecture that will catch your breath!

FAMILY AND LEISURE
I am happily married to Ray and we have three wonderful children, Eoin who graduates this August with a B.Sc. in Math and Physics, Alice currently in University studying Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Stephen in High School planning to become a scientist! We are an active family, all very involved in sports, Rugby, Gaelic Football and Athletics. Living in Limerick 'the home of Rugby', we are supporters of the 'Munster Rugby'.

I do fitness classes weekly and a lot of walking with Ray at weekends, weather permitting. Living beside a golf course and driving range, I started lessons this year and now hoping to continue for the summer to enjoy the facility. As its early days my handicap will remain high but the 19th hole is proving very enjoyable.

WORK
I am in my fourth year working at B2BGateway.Net. My work involves support as a maintenance programmer which allows me to work on a range of systems.

Software maintenance is the modification of software to correct faults, to improve performance, deletion of obsolete functionality and optimization. Working in a team of very skilled programmers, we support the Project Managers and Support Engineers, with whom we form a bigger support team for B2BGateway.Net clients worldwide. I really enjoy my work and with constantly evolving and improving systems, it is an exciting place to work.

In the Irish office we have great personnel from all departments which enables B2BGateway.Net Shannon to provide full EU sales and support cover.
