Just before Christmas, I was sitting by the fireplace with a beer and few friends. As the conversation progressed, we touched on the normal subjects which covered family, sports, cars, politics and current events. The politics discussion focused squarely on Donald Trump, and eventually we all agreed to disagree.
The current events conversation started out delicately, but then it crossed over to the recent terrorist events happening around the world. Naturally we each had our own solution to the problem. Sometimes, I think the world leaders should just meet in front of a fireplace with a beer and all the world's problems would be solved.
In the middle of discussing the terrorist problem, (the solutions varied from instituting a global hug day, to indiscriminately using nuclear weapons), one friend stood up and shared his seldom offered insight. This friend is one of those guys who does not say much, but when he does... it can be very good.
He said, "Ya know, one day soon we are going to be visited by aliens." Everyone looked confused but we gave him a moment to continue, "Since the aliens are coming here, instead of us going there, they will be more technologically advanced than we are." He looked at the group and it appeared that they were following his logic, so he continued, "When the aliens get here, do they just want to be friends?? Hell no, there are only two reasons why they would come to our planet."
My friend took a deep breath and said "Reason one: they want to enslave us. We would be forced to work for the aliens in some manner. Reason Two: They want to eat us."
He continued, "As soon as one human is enslaved or eaten by an Alien, all terrorism and hostility between humans will stop. We will all be on the same team and our efforts will be focused on them, as opposed to fighting amongst ourselves."
The room fell silent for a minute and my friend sat down. There was some shuffling of feet and some clearing of throats as a few uncomfortable minutes of silence passed. Suddenly, someone said, "I don't think I'd be very tasty." There was laughter and everything went back to normal.
As humans, I believe we can all get along if we are able to see the big picture. With that being said, I hope everyone has a happy, safe and prosperous 2016. At B2BGateway we are looking forward to an exciting year of progress and improvements. However, we do hope that no aliens show up.
