Rhode Island is the smallest state in the United States, with only about 1000 square miles of land, but we also have over 400 miles of coastline. In short, you are never more than about a 30 minute drive from the ocean.
On a Saturday night a few weeks ago, my wife and I had dinner with some friends and towards the end of the night we decided to go to the beach. The weather was still very warm, considering that it was the first weekend of October. We took our Jeep down onto the beach, (we have a beach pass) and we drove down to the water’s edge.
In a small tidal pool, I rolled up my shorts and waded into the water. As I walked through the tidal pool, I noticed that the water was glowing an eerie blue color around me. It was so amazing I called the others over to look at it. One of our friends who was a marine biology major, explained that it was Bioluminescence, and that the microscopic plankton in the water emits light when they are touched.
So I stood there, in the knee deep glowing water, with the moon lighting up the sand, the smell of a campfire and the sound of the waves in the distance and thought… this is very different than my usual everyday life. My work at B2BGateway is surrounded by technology.
Although I thrive on working in a fast paced environment like B2BGateway, it is nice to get away and be in a place where there is no technology. It is also nice to have a glow of plankton around your feet rather than the glow of a computer screen in your face.
